According to Yahoo, Nina Pham, a Vietnamese nurse from Dallas has contracted Ebola from being in close contact with Thomas Duncan. She is the first case of Ebola transmission in the United States, and only the 2nd person in the US to have gotten the virus.
Although the hospital released a statement earlier that they had a new case of Ebola, the name of the victim was not released until earlier today when Pham’s family confirmed to news outlets that she was the one infected with the virus.
Nina Pham is a 26-year-old nurse who attended Texas Christian University. It is currently being investigated how she was infected despite following the correct safety precautions for caring for a man with Ebola. Another unindentified person who had close contact with Nina has been brought in for close inspection, but there has been no sign of Ebola.
“If this one individual was infected and we don’t know how — within the isolation unit — then it is possible that other individuals could have been infected as well,” Frieden said during a press conference. “We consider them to be at risk, and we are doing an in-depth review and investigation.”
We wish Nina and her family the best of luck in fighting the virus.
