It’s well known that the elite rich from mainland China have been moving to Southern California at a high rate. One of the main places they live in is Arcadia, CA, which has been garnering a reputation as the “Chinese Beverly Hills.” This city in the San Gabriel Valley is home to the richest one percenters of the Chinese population. Some of them are students with rich parents. Some of them are rich Chinese businessmen who keep houses overseas for their mistresses.
Kristie Hang of Vocativ set out to investigate the area and ask about why the city became how it is, and discover how the city earned the name “the Chinese Beverly Hills.”
