In the Anime Chobits, the protagonist falls in love with his cyborg doll that he finds in a trash heap. It's looking like that Anime might turn into a reality very soon. Rapper Ludacris posted the following video on his Facebook page, and we found a version of the video on YouTube.
Technology is advancing at a very rapid pace. Last week I talked to you about the story of the ultra-realistic Japanese sex dolls. This week this video started floating around. At low resolution, it's hard to even tell if this is a robot or a human. Most of the motions look very humanlike — fluid and non-artificial, although it will still take a while before they can make the robot look real enough to be mistaken for a human.
We're not that far off — especially since there is a lot of money being invested into the field of robotics and artificial intelligence. In a decade or two I can see robots being so realistic that we can't easily tell between a robot and a human.
In the movie AI, there are different robots in different parts of society. There are some “gigolo” and “prostitute” robots (two uses I believe robots will absolutely dominate) and then there are even some children robots (like the main character). Will that movie be a reality? A part of me thinks that would be very interesting, but another part of me believes that such a reality will cause the demise of humanity Terminator-style.
What do you think will happen? Sound off in the comments.
