Chrissie Chau is very famous in Hong Kong as a model and actress. In fact, she’s worked with some of the Hong Kong movie industry’s brightest stars like Chow Yun Fat. She also is famous enough to warrant her own Wikipedia page (where you can learn a little bit more about her).
We got the privilege of sitting down with Chrissie and asking her a few questions about being a movie star and her personal life.
How did you begin acting?
I started modeling first, but when I turned 21 I switched professions and started going to acting classes. I was born in China, but my first rookie role was in Hong Kong. I won a contest from a game show called ”Game Girl” which was what got me popular. Since then I’ve travelled all over the world doing modeling and acting – Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
What do you think were some big events in your career that helped your fame?
My break-out role was Beach Spike. Another thing that helped spark my popularity was starting to DJ in Macau. Paper Moon was a romantic drama that I acted in, and with that role I also won LA Best Female Actress.
Would you ever consider doing American films?
Right now, I don’t have market value in the US. I would love to work there in the future, but another issue is that my English is not 100%.
What are your tips for anyone trying to become an actor or actress?
I cannot tell people what to think or what to do, but if they really want to go in this entertainment business then I would advise them to think really hard if this is really want you want. It’s not easy and there is a lot of negativity, especially in Hong Kong.
Always be comfortable with every role you take, but know how to push yourself to the limit. The worst part about acting is not having the guts to step outside your comfort zone yet still be 100% yourself.
What are the challenges you face as an actress and model?
When I was younger it was hard to take all the negativity as a model. A lot of Hong Kong people think you’re exposing too much skin and there’s backlash that can really hurt you. Now as an actress I want to get unique roles like the villain, but it’s not easy to get those roles.
What do you think you’ll be doing in 5 years?
I get this question a lot, but honestly I’m not sure. Right now I’m taking a break from the entertainment scene because i just open my own modeling studio where I will do photoshoots with my team. I hope that within 5 years I can encourage more girls to get into the modeling business.
How’s your dating life?
Dating right now is not my priority lol! Because I just broke up with my boyfriend last year. For now I just want to stick to my business and thats acting and scouting talent, but you never know what could happen in the future.
If you were looking for a guy, can you describe the type of guy he would be?
He is the guy who every girls wants. Caring and supportive. He likes to make a people laugh and he loves his family and my family and is a hardworking person.
I really like a guy like Chow Yun-Fat, we called him big brother Fat Gor on set. He is so comfortable which each film he is doing never afraid of anything because the scripts are so good.
What’s your idea of a great first date?
I think when he took me to see meteor shower, that was a great first date.
What are the challenges of dating since you’re a celebrity?
There’s heavy scrutiny by the media and oftentimes negativity. It’s hard to maintain your privacy with dating.
When you’re not working, what do you do for fun?
Probably on vacation in Japan or New Zealand. Filming is so intensive that if I’m not working I have to relax and go on vacation.
Are there any models or actresses right now that you look up to?
Yes definitely. I look up to Crystal Liu Yiu Fei, Li Bing Bing, and Gong Li.
