AmpedAsia.com: Asian Americans are not shown in American media very often, why do you think this is, and what do you think of the future of Asians in Hollywood?
Natasha: I think in the past, there were challenges within the culture and trying to balance family with career. Most young, Asian Americans feel the pressure from their parents to carry themselves in a certain manner. At the same, we have to assimilate into the American culture or else we will get outcast…almost as though we don’t exist in this country. A lot of times the two will clash. My father however, now understands that he wanted to raise his children in America so that they could pursue dreams.
I think as more Asians start to assimilate into the American culture, we will see more in mainstream media. We are definitely starting to make our mark though. It’s almost a ‘cool/trendy’ thing to be Asian or have some sort of Asian heritage these days.
I would love to see more Asian Americans taking lead roles and being the face that represents big corporations and products. The face of the nation is changing, but unfortunately, most clients usually have an image already in their head when it comes to hiring an actress or model. It’s very hard to change that client’s mind but you can only try. I will go on auditions that have 200 blondes in line with about 2 Asian models or actresses. But I don’t give up because I want them to see an Asian read those lines or wear that product before they make their final decision.
AmpedAsia.com: For aspiring models and actresses, what would be your tips to them?
Natasha: My advice is to follow your heart. Take into consideration what others have to say, but go for what feels right to YOU. Go for your dreams! Your real friends will be there whether you win or fail. You won’t get every gig that you want, but you can’t get anything if you don’t try. My other advice is to have no regrets!
Oh, and if you are aspiring to be a model, be sure to drop me an email. I have something cool that I’m starting on my website for up and coming new faces.
AmpedAsia.com: Are there any famous celebrities that you regularly interact with?
Natasha: I have many celebrity friends that I hang out with from time to time, but I don’t like to use their names to justify that I am with the ‘in’ crowd. I do, however, take photos with my friends that I hang out with that I post on my site…so maybe you can go there and check em out.
AmpedAsia.com: Tell us about a scary event that happened to you.
Natasha: I almost got kidnapped one morning while walking my two dogs.
AmpedAsia.com: Name the top 3 traits you want in someone for a relationship.
Natasha: I like someone that makes me laugh. I like a guy that is honest. I like a guy that makes his woman feel special. I think that’s what most girls want, yet it is so hard to find.
AmpedAsia.com: Ok now you can promote any links you want, your website, myspace, etc.
