Don’t you love some good gossip? It’s really what makes the world go round, knowing that other people are going through more f***ed up stuff than you are. While the Asian entertainment industry is relatively tame compared to Hollywood, there are still tons of scandals to keep us glued to the tabloids. Here are five of the people who have the worst reputations for scandal in Asia.
Zhao Wei – Husband Stealer / Pregnant Woman Beater
According to many sources, Zhao Wei is a bonafide drama queen. In 2004 she lost her then-boyfriend, Wang Yu to a competing actress, Huang Yi. There was a huge media feud between the two actresses, which was exacerbated by Huang Yi being the actress chosen to replace Zhao in a movie role.
It must have been completely downhill from there because she has since been embroiled in several scandals. In that same year, she was accused of beating her business partner and friend, Zou, when Zou was 8 months pregnant.
In 2009, she was engaged to a Singaporean businessman, Huang You Long, reportedly stealing him from his fiance. Ironically, the fiance was the one who introduced them. I guess when you’ve gotten your boyfriend stolen, the only payback is to steal another woman’s man?
Edison Chen – Sex Tape / Jailbait Lover
In 2008 photos of Edison Chen in compromising positions with a myriad of Hong Kong’s hottest actresses were leaked. While sleazy, it was also sort of impressive. The lineup of beauties he had bedded included Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Bobo Chan, and Rachel Ngan. If you put that into Hollywood perspective, it would be like having sex with Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Adriana Lima, and Kim Kardashian.
But it doesn’t end there. In 2011 Edison was again involved in controversy when they found out he was sending out dirty messages to a sixteen-year-old model named Cammi Tse. They are reportedly dating, but seriously Edison? Aren’t you from the States? You know what jailbait is.
Ivy – Cheater / Sex Tape
Ivy’s ex-boyfriend, Mr. Yoo, claimed to have a sex tape of the couple. He blackmailed her for $45,000 or he said he’d release the tape. The sex tape was never released.
Later, singer Wheesung pretty much said that an ex-girlfriend had been cheating on him. Many assume that he was referring to Ivy.
There are many allegations that Mr. Yoo actually caught Ivy cheating on him with singer, Wheesung. At the same time, Wheesung found out he was two-timed by Ivy.
While none of these allegations have been proven 100%, Ivy has been the target of much media controversy and has gained a lot of recognition from the public as being a cheater and two-timer.
Jackie Chan – Serial Cheater / Playboy
Uncle Jackie! How could you? It’s hard to believe that Jackie is one of those guys. Even though he’s married, he’s also been having some affairs on the side. He had a child out of wedlock with Elaine Ng (former Miss Asia) in 1990.
While the extent of his other affairs are unknown, it’s pretty common knowledge in Hong Kong that Jackie was a playboy who had sex with many other women.
The K-pop Industry – Stricter Than Your Momma
There has been a lot of drama in the K-pop industry lately. One of which are allegations that management companies train their trainees way harder than they should be legally allowed to do. Then they take most of the money that their trainees make and let their “stars” live in poor conditions. Not to mention that they make the contracts incredibly unfavorable for their stars.
In 2009, three members of TVXQ (aka DBSK) filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment for a variety of reasons such as improper profit distribution and unfairly long contracts. They eventually quit the band and started JYJ.
In 2011, G-dragon was caught smoking marijuana, and people were in a real tizzy. Although G-dragon was only given a warning, another K-popper, E-sens of Supreme Team, was suspended from all activities and prosecuted after he was found to have smoked weed.
What’s the big deal with weed in Korea? Haven’t they heard the lyrics in America, where Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg openly talk about getting high. Haha just kidding guys. Stay drug free.
And with kids getting into the entertainment industry at age 10 or 12, it’s almost like child abuse. Stop training those young kids!
