Top 10 Universities for Asian Interests

Last time Tony showed us how to meet Asians in US Colleges. In this article, the top ten US Asian colleges have been selected based on their Asian population
percentage, activities, clubs, Greek life, and more. Let’s take a look at number 10…

10 – University of Texas at Austin
Starting at number 10, we have the University of Texas at Austin. When it comes to Greek life, UT Austin is home of the Texas Asian Pan-Hellenic Council,

which is the governing body for four Asian-interest Greek organizations. Also, there are various Asian social clubs on campus, which are run by officers who

represent the wants and needs of the group members. Lastly, if you are very education-oriented, UT Austin provides many Asian similar-major groups, including

Asian Business Student Association and Asian Law Students Association. These interest groups are to educate in their respective areas of study while

promoting Asian bonding.

9 – Stanford University
Ah, our first of many California schools on the list… let’s see why Stanford made it to our top 10. Stanford’s population consists of 24% Asians. Although

this may be a relatively small amount compared to other UC schools, Stanford’s plentiful Asian social clubs make it worthy of number 9. Its range from

Taiwanese to Pacific Island groups makes it one of the most Asian-dynamic US Colleges. Most importantly, however, is Stanford’s Asian American Activities

Center. This internet-driven program serves as Stanford’s primary resource for Asian American student affairs and community development

8 – University of Maryland
Some of you are probably stunned by number 8. You might be thinking, “What? This is not a UC school. Plus, who’s even heard of the state of Maryland??” Well,

you are in for a surprise. Although the Asian percentage is not as high as it could be, College Park, the city around the University of Maryland has a

smaller Asian demographic. What does this mean for you? This means that many Asians that attend the University of Maryland are from out of state! Yes, this

also means that you can meet many Asians from around the country and around the world. Also, there is a branch under the 13-institution University System of

Maryland Diversity Network that promotes greater awareness and appreciation for Asians.

7 – University of California at San Diego
Here is another Californian school in our countdown. UC San Diego has an astounding 41% Asian population. This means that for every 5 people you meet, around

2 of them will be Asian. Since 1997, UC San Diego’s Asian population has increased by 29% almost linearly. This means that in 2010, 2012, or even further in

the future, the Asian population at UC San Diego will continue to increase, maybe to even over 50%. Alongside this, UCSD has many clubs and activities that

are Asian-dominated. The Diversity Matters counsel, for example, appeals to the school board every year in order to promote Asian awareness around the

campus.

6 – Polytechnic University of New York
The Polytechnic University of New York is one of the only schools on our list that is urban. Though you may not be familiar with this school, it is home to

37% Asians. Also, it contains one of the highest percentages of Asian-related social groups in the United States – 20%! Polytechnic UNY is located in

Brooklyn, New York, as has excellent science and technology research aspects. What else is so special about this campus? Well, it’s New York, of course! New

York is home to many national attractions, such as the Empire State Building, Time Square, and Wall Street. So next time you meet that significant other,

take her/him “on top of the world.”
